Ladies Walk the Stairs

Fifty ladies of different ages gathered at the Mount Vale Care Home in Northallerton to retrace their steps and relive the memories of when they were last at the former Mount Maternity Hospital.

The ‘Walk the Steps' fundraising initiative was devised by Sarah Broadbent, general manager of the home. Raffle prizes were generously donated by local businesses and guests enjoyed tea and cakes  in the dining room.

There was a great response with local residents turning out to reminisce about where they had their babies and to share their stories and the fun event raised £230 to help the Friarage's maternity unit.

Labour ward manager, Kay Hutchinson, said: "I cared for the last lady to give birth at the Mount and worked there - along with clinical matron Anne Wall - before we moved to the new maternity unit at the Friarage and we both have fond memories of our time at the hospital.

"We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the event and to Mount Vale for their help and support.  We will be using the money to benefit future mums and babies on the Friarage's maternity unit."
