Sir Michael promotes dignity and respect for those in care

In his role as dignity ambassador, Sir Michael Parkinson has been travelling around the country to promote the role of respect for the elderly in care homes.

In his role as dignity ambassador, Sir Michael Parkinson has been travelling around the country to promote the role of respect for the elderly in care homes.

He said: "Over the past six months, I have had have the great honour of meeting some of our nation's real unsung heroes, hearing their stories and bringing attention to what they are doing to hopefully inspire many others to follow suit."

Sir Michael added that in doing their job which many people may consider to be ordinary, care workers were having a "tremendous" impact on the people they were around.

He plans to use his role to ensure that this message is passed on to as many individuals in the sector as possible to make people aware of the difference the line of work made.

Sir Michael joined former cricket umpire Dickie Bird last week at the University of Huddersfield to pick up an honorary doctor of letters, bestowed upon the pair by actor Patrick Stewart.
