Game Kenwyn residents and staff refuse to be beaten
17/10/2007
Residents and staff from Kenwyn care home have completed their own version of the Coast 2 Coast challenge.

Residents and staff from Kenwyn care home have completed their own version of the Coast 2 Coast challenge.

In the spirit of healthy competition, they were seeking to match the 1,111 miles achieved by Barchester Healthcare Director Bill Wilson and his Coast 2 Coast team.

By completing circuits of the garden in chair and on foot and by cycling both static and on the road, they managed to achieve the impressive feat.

Resident Mike Tonkin completed 250 circuits of the garden in his electric wheelchair to contribute 50 miles in total.

Mandy Trotter, the general manager of the home, said: "It was a brilliant effort by everyone, particularly Mike who completed the circuits completely independently. It was inspirational to watch him going round and round without any help."

Their efforts raised £655, which the Coast 2 Coast appeal will divide equally between the Barchester Foundation and the Alzheimer's Society.
