Care home transformed to racetrack

15/06/2007

Residents of a care home in Camberley experienced a My Fair Lady-style afternoon complete with picnic lunch. Old and younger people at Corrina Lodge in The Avenue were treated to Victorian style entertainment with the music and songs from My Fair Lady. In keeping with one of the scenes from the film, guests were asked to dress in black and white for the afternoon at the races. The afternoon was part of a competition among Barchester care homes across the country, judged by the creativity of the food on the menu and the activities. Manager Jayne Holloway said the 51 residents had enjoyed the afternoon, which ended with the chance to have a flutter of sorts on the horses. "We had a DVD of horse racing. Each table was a racecourse. They chose a horse out of a hat and that was their horse for that particular race." Eight or nine races later the Aintree table was victorious. Its members will receive a pub lunch.
