Care home residents raise money for local hospice

Residents at the Chorleywood Beaumont care home have raised more than £700 for a local hospice.

The charitable residents of the Chorleywood Beaumont care home have raised money for a good cause while indulging in some afternoon treats.

On May 30th, the care home held a tea party to raise funds for a local hospice charity.

In total £723 was raised and donated to the Hospice Lotteries on behalf of the Barchester Foundation.

The event was organised by Shaun Canavan, the nursing care home's general manager, and was also attended by Blinda Ellis and Rowena Dean of the Hospice Lotteries.

Commenting on its success, Mr Canavan said: "I worked in palliative care as an Rgn, prior to coming into care homes, and I realise the value of the hospice organisation, and to contribute in any way to the wonderful work that they do, is an absolute pleasure."

Meanwhile, it was recently reported that a pensioner has raised money for a Barchester care home by undertaking a mammoth bike ride.

Brian Kirby, aged 71, cycled from Belton-in-Rutland to Boston, Lincolnshire and then a further 300 miles to Abbotsbury in Dorset, raising £310 for Chater Lodge and £810 for Macmillan Cancer Research, reports the Rutland Times.

He opted to donate a portion of his sponsorship to the care home as it is where his wife Ronnie resides.
