Southerndown care home has been getting active in aid of charity.

Staff, residents and one relative from the home completed a blustery walk from Southerndown into the centre of Chipping Norton as part the sponsored National Memory Walk in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.

A good time was had by all and there was an obligatory lunch stop at the Crown & Cushion.

The Alzheimer's Society estimates that there are currently over 700,000 people in the UK with dementia.

Two thirds of dementia sufferers are women and the proportion of people with the progressive disorder doubles every five years.
Some 60,000 deaths a year are directly attributable to dementia.

Founded in 1979, the Alzheimer's Society campaigns for improved health and social services and greater public understanding of all aspects of dementia.

It boasts 25,000 members and operates across 250 branches and support groups which liaise with the national organisation.
