Yearly gardening comp with a celebrity twist.

Green-fingered celebrity Charlie Dimmock has opened this year's Barchester in Bloom gardening competition at last year's winning Milford House care home, it is reported.

The competition promotes the creation of imaginative gardens across Barchester's 170 care homes for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, the Caring Business website says.

It states that Ms Dimmock will be present at the final awards ceremony in October where the winner will be awarded with new gardening equipment for their care home.

Caring business reports the TV gardener said: "Outdoor space is so important for everyone and it's great to see that Barchester are committed to providing stimulating gardens and gardening activities for their residents to enjoy."

According to the website, Ms Dimmock commented that each year of the competition has seen increasingly inspiring and imaginative gardens.

Last month, it was reported by the Reading Chronicle that a pretend bus stop where residents can sit and relax has been installed in new gardens at Barchester's Austen House care home, to increase the enjoyment of residents.
