Care home residents help choose staff

Care home residents lend a helping hand in appointing their new activities co-ordinator.
A Barchester Healthcare care home has shown how much it values its residents' opinions by giving them a say in appointing its latest member of staff.
Westwood House's new activities co-ordinator, Hannah Milne, had to face a panel comprised of the home's manager, four of its residents and one resident's relative before she was awarded the position.
Ms Milne stated that her appointment has been made all the more special by the fact that the residents she is now working with chose her.
"The fact that Westwood House encourage their residents to have such input with the decisions that will impact them makes me even more proud to have become part of the team," she added.
Westwood House resident, Mr Dunsmore, who has been involved with a number of the interviews at Westwood, praised the fact that the residents are encouraged to be involved and said that he enjoyed helping with recruiting new staff.
