A care home project planned by Barchester Healthcare for Jersey has been approved, it has emerged.

A care home project planned by Barchester Healthcare for Jersey has been approved, it has emerged.

The facility will specialise in the treatment and care of those with dementia and excessive alcohol-related memory loss, according to a report in the Jersey Evening Post.

Environment minister Freddie Cohen gave the go-ahead for the project, which is set to add to the existing Lakeside Residential Home, a development close to the island's airport at Rue de la Commune, it was added.

The new facility will be created in the nearby car park and on the land adjacent to the facility and will be undertaken by a partnership of architect Robert Adam and another local architectural technician Rob Williams, who represents JS Livingston Architectural Services.

Barchester Healthcare also operates Lakeside Care Home, which it says provides "highly-qualified and attentive staff" who focus on the individual care needs of residents, with plans tailored to each person under its wing.
