Resident celebrates birthday in spectacular fashion by taking to the skies.

Barchester has enabled one of its residents to fly in a glider plane as part of a birthday celebration.

Frank Clarke, a resident at Threshfield Court care home in Skipton, celebrated his 88th birthday in style by taking to the skies, reports CaringBusiness.

Mr Clarke is a retired journalist and had written an article almost 50 years ago about the Yorkshire Gliding Club - a copy of which he presented to the club during his recent visit.

According to the news provider, the Yorkshire care home resident said: "All the staff at Threshfield Court have been very encouraging, right from the first time I mentioned wanting to do another glider flight."

Mr Clarke added that he had not experienced any nerves during what had been a "thrilling" flight.

Threshfield Court care home was recently featured in a national newspaper, which hailed the "uplifting treatment" it provides to residents.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Julie McCaffrey said the care home had brought about a "revolution" in care through its stimulating environment and specialist care provision.
