National gardening contest is approaching its tense final stages...
Prestbury Beaumont Care Community has won through to the semi-final stage of the Barchester in Bloom gardening competition.
Gardening celebrity Charlie Dimmock will present awards at a glittering final ceremony in London to the winners of the competition, which promotes the creation of positive outdoor environments at Barchester care homes.
Hard work from staff and residents at Prestbury is paying off, with the home making it through to the last 26 out of 170 Barchester homes across the UK.
The head gardener Edwin Clarke - who has this year entered the Best Hanging Basket and Best Front Garden categories - revealed that he gains great enjoyment from working with the residents.
The winners under six categories will each be awarded £500 to spend on gardening equipment and runners-up will win £250, while the home which earns the coveted Barchester Healthcare Garden of the Year title will be awarded £1,000 to spend on gardening equipment, plus £500 to fund a celebration party for residents, staff and gardeners.
Meanwhile, the Prestbury Beaumont Care Community has just held a week-long event to mark the home's entry into a national chef competition, which celebrates the wealth of cooking talent in Barchester care homes.
